Even if the Audi and the Porsche use the same combination both cars are very different : diesel vs petrol, flywheel vs battery. It will be very interesting to see what the Toyota TS040 archieve if they retain two KERS and an aspirated V-8 engine for the TS040. I will also keep an eye on pit 56 next year : Nissan the odd ?

a) Do you think that the FiA will introduce in 2015/16 an "official" LMP electrical regulation ?

b) Do you know if a F-1 V-6 HT (or a derivative) could technically speaking find its way into WEC sooner or later ?

Now, I'm a little bit less nostalgic for the group C and the IMSA GTP because we have now a strong Endurance Championship again !

Honda is offering a version of their IndyCar engine for LMP1.
But I think the F1 engines will not have the mileage required.

How close is HPD to Honda and the Honda that will do the F1 engine considering the turbo experience they have from the Indy engines.

I'm getting quite excited for LMP1 again.

This year we'll have Audi v Toyota v Porsche, and next year we'll have Nissan added to the mix (assuming Toyota stays in the WEC, which given they have a new car, I think they will).

Lots of different engine configurations too: Toyota with a naturally aspirated 3.4 l V8 petrol hybrid, Audi with its 3.7 V6 turbodiesel hybrid and Porsche with a 2.0 l V4 petrol turbo. =D>

I wonder which route Nissan will choose? They've got plenty of experience with high dispacement naturally aspirated engines in the LMP2 category, but they're also mucking about with low displacement turbo petrol 4s with battery hybrids with their 'Garage 56/ZEOD RC' project.

Hopefully BMW and Ferrari can join the party as well. Would bring a new golden era in the top class.

Do we have confirmation for the V-config?

Its not official no.
Porsche‘s all-new LMP1 contender will supposedly come equipped with a turbocharged V4 2.0-liter direct-injection gasoline engine.

The 919 Hybrid is a comeback model for Porsche in the world of LMP1 racing and according to one of the reports, it has a V4 configuration for the already confirmed 2.0-liter, four-cylinder direct-injection gasoline engine. Porsche supposedly opted for this configuration for packaging reasons to enable the best possible position for installing the hybrid drive system.

This gasoline engine works with two energy recuperation systems called KERS and ERS which will store the energy in a battery pack until the driver presses a button to deploy it to the front wheels through an electric motor. The V4 engine will power the rear wheels while the lithium-ion type battery has been provided by A123 Systems from United States.

Behind the wheel of the Porsche 919 Hybrid will be Mark Webber, Neel Jani, Timo Bernhard, Romain Dumas, Marc Lieb and Brendon Hartley. The vehicle will receive its racing debut on April 20 when the 2014 WEC starts at Silverstone Six Hours. Needless to say, the highlight of the season will be the 24 Hours of Le Mans that will be held on 14-15 June.

I guess WEC sounds better than F-1 in 2014...

That looks awesome.

The offset single exhaust outlet suggests (though does not confirm) that they are using an inline 4.
