No offense, but what has this got to do with Rob Wilson?
Because we were discussing why, when Lewis is the only driver to apparently go faster than RW, it's Kimi he signs the praises of unreservedly. I thought it was fairly obvious, in context.
If Rob is such a knob, drivers would not knock on his door for some driving lessons.
And fyi, Kimi beat RW 's lap time on 2nd attempt despite matching him on first attempt. And he told both lewis and kimi to go home, because he has nth to teach them anymore.
Having extreme 1 lap speed is just a single dimension of racing world. As we saw last season, Lewis literally a non factor in pretty much the whole 2nd half of the season despite the revised pirelli being more durable. Contrary to fanbase pov where lewis has 0 weakness.
Vettel for example is much more balance is terms of being a "complete driver." And i doubt vettel is any slower than lewis on 1 lap. I think there are other aspect of Kimi impressed RW that leave too much impact on himself thoughout the years. Well, on his prime, Kimi is unbelievably quick on both weekend masked by reliability issues. Lewis is always there on saturday, but same thing couldn't be said on sunday.
And with age being a factor, relying on 1 lap pace alone will not push you any forward. At young age, you accumulate experience and combine with your talent, you develop your own skillset. Physically, driver will wear out by aging, if you have enough skill set to support yourself, you can always maintain your form despite aging.
Its like NBA, lots of promising players have lots of talent and enormous physical strength. But when they got themselves injured for relying on strength extensively, their career is over for good. Players with great skill set often find the most easy and least burden way to score and win the game.
Raw talent more often than not being overhyped by fanbase globally.
