Mercedes AMG F1 W05

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

what is that sound when he is off throttle? is that a cut of cylinder? (I mean on a sound that looks like TC sound, I am not saying is TC)

edit: by the way, is this confirmed to be mercedes engine?

Seeing the mechanic's shirt you could be sure it`s a merc engine ...

On the note of consumption, this years times are at least 3 sec. off the 2013 ones, so maybe now it`s worth more than 3 tenth per lap for each 10kg of fuel so maybe they have 4 tenths per lap in hand ...
And if they have allocated 90kg for the race at the end of the race they could gain theoretically a whooping ... 23,2 sec!!!
I bet they`ll do that, bearing in mind that :
a) we'll have at least two SC
b) there`s a 40% chance of rain

It`s just a piece of heat shield that was detached during the running ...

I think Mercedes said that was an elbow protector.

Gruener said it was an elbow protector on Sky.

Sorry if repost but this kind of pics are gold : P
Nice look on the 'log' type manifold.
The turbo is enclosed between the engine and the gearbox indeed, like some Indy cars.
Some of the radiators are placed behind
Is the compressor fed by the big carbon fiber channel you see above the radiator? we now know the compressor is placed in front of the engine but it's too close to the rollhoop and the air would have to follow a very steep angle if it comes from the rollhoop intake...

Need to see the other side really. Maybe that black box houses the air-water intercooler.

there is no water air intercooler. those are heavy and less efficient.

I notice Merc are playing it safe and using heavy hoses.

A wider shot

Is the rollhoop airbox stopping at the red horizontal line? maybe one of the coolers is lying there.

We've seen pics of Ferrari's and apparently Mercedes has it too.

you see a water cooled setup is really two radiators plus a pump. Why would anyone do this for less efficiency and less reliability beats me... So i doubt it.. but I would not mind to be wrong.

Can anyone confirm this and why they did not run new wing? Could it be something to do with the rain? Or maybe new front wing is designed to work with the new nose, which has not yet passed the crash test.
