Mercedes AMG F1 W05

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

I think he means the curves on the right underside as you look at this pic, so just inside the front tyre when mounted on the car.

I think there is really a vortex under that swirls under the curve on the outside part of the flap

Yeah, I misread his post. He was meaning on the inside of the front tire. I see it.

I agree with you. Looks like a vortex cone with the vortex created by air flowing in from under the footplate and around the lip that faces in to the cone.
If you are more fortunate than others, build a larger table not a taller fence.

Interesting interview of Andy Cowell. Does anyone here do a translation? It is pretty hard to read it by using Google translator.

 It cant be unseen
On a serious note. That frontwing looks gorgeously designed. A real piece of art. Would make Newey jealous. :D

I thought it was quite easy to read after the google translate. Funny thing he mentioned if the fuel flow would be discarted the power output could easy be around 1400 BHP.

"If the brightest minds of the formula 1 build new engines , but must come out 750 hp actually more . How much power you could tease out without any restrictions from the engine ?

If we were to double the fuel flow , we could theoretically double the performance . So that would be more than 1400 hp. But is important that the engine was designed for the current body and developed accordingly.

Question is for Bahrain - will we finally see the new Mercedes nose and thus their new front wing in action. Could it be that, rather than them keep on retrying to pass the crash test with the exact same nose dimensions, they are pushing the limits and keep on bringing it slightly further out, to see how much they can get away with.

Is that the new nose? It looks pretty nice! With that little material, no wonder it took several crash tests to pass.

It looks shorter than the old one and the pylons have less material attaching it to the wing.

Or it could also be the angle and my lack of sleep that makes it look different to me....

Edit: Yeah I think my eyes are playing tricks on me:

It's the new front wing, NOT the new nose.
