A shameless image thread for the enginephiles

All that has to do with the power train, gearbox, clutch, fuels and lubricants, etc. Generally the mechanical side of Formula One.

But the real looker among CART-engines was the 1989 Alfa Romeo, oh mama, but this was post-Carlo Chiti of course;

Gotta admit.... they do make pretty ones - don't they. Wouldn't it be great to hear that name return to racing.

In 1996, Al Melling designed and built a 3.0 V10 for Lola, little did he know he would never get paid;

This is the first Mercedes-Benz F-1 racing engine. It was developped for the W 196 R and used a Bosch direct injection. That engine was powerful and very efficient (2500 ccm : 256 bhp in 1954 and later 290 bhp at 8500 rpm). Note also that the eight cylinder engine was tilted to lower the CG.

1954, 2014 the history repeats itself...

Diagonally placed turbo and compressor? What is its benefit over conventional linear mounted ones?
