Mercedes AMG F1 W05

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Finally matches the team renders. It's been in the pipeline for quite some time.

Guys, why releasing it now, when they have such a large advantage, shouldn't they keep it "in the pipe" and release it when the competition starts to gain on them?

Because the earlier its fitted the earlier you get gains and the earlier can plan for future ones.

Quite, but with regards to keeping it in reserve for if/when teams catch up, either they can or they can't match you for pace, hiding your pieces isn't going to change that. But as you say there are many benefits from running them.

I don't think those bargeboards are new Crucial_X, they are just part of a more elaborate setup:

That sounds like a way to hinder development. Incremental improvements to a strong baseline spec I believe is one of the reasons RBR were/are so formidable.

There's no reason to keep performance back. Certainly not this type of performance: it's easily recognizable what they try to achieve, and something other teams also would know even without mercedes showing it. The difficult part is getting the same short nose: it takes a very complex strength structure to achieve that. If the rumors are true and mercedes, a team with a massive budget and expertise, failed the crash tests 5 times prior getting it succeeded, then chances are all the other teams, exception perhaps might be red bull, will have equal or even more problems.

But can't other teams now get ideas of how merc managed to do it 'cause it's out in the open now?

The secret is in the Carbon Layering, thats not visible. The Nose getting shorter was known for quite some Time now.

Besides like already said it's good to bring such Upgrades to the track so you can build Performance up from there, why wait for it just to have a correlation Issue and the whole Upgrade doesn' brin any Speed and the Compeditors overtake you.... ? This is an Update that affects the whole Airflow under and around the Car.

What Mercedes have been trying to achieve has been know about for a long time now. The nose fits in with the philosophy of the car and vice verse. It may not be a solution that works for others.
