McLaren MP4-29 Mercedes

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Why are visible updates everything for you? Just relax and see how everything plays out. Personally I would bet they will still be quicker than FI. Sorry mods for going off topic.

I'm beginning to question McLaren's development strategy; they keep adding little vanes onto the front wing which wont make much performance difference, when there are bigger areas on the car that need developing. The front wing is quite good, and its is excellent to see they aren't depriving it like the previous 3-4 seasons but compared to the likes of red bull and Mercedes, the main planes seem very 'clumsy' and large.

Who knows, I'm surprised because the car is supposed to be fairly good in corners if jenson is to be believed, maybe it is the long back straight.

I don't understand Mclaren at the moment. I'm confused as to why their nose, front wing, and rear end is different from the other top teams. Maybe they think they have a better solution but the facts don't back that up right now.

I think the longer straights are preventing them from showing their true colours.

Edit - Jenson was complaining about not getting heat in the fronts... though I think Jenson always complains about getting heat into the tyres when he is not running at the front.

It's probably drivable, but with Button at the helm the slightest of things is enough for him to deem the car undrivable.
The car doesn't look bad to me, it just doesn't have a lot of downforce.

They need to take of the butterfly suspension and shrink the big cooling holes and bring them lower down.
A new sidepod package is in order.
For Sure!!

Is this the "luggage compartment" freed up by the log manifold?

Or is something missing?

It's not looking good, Button isn't too optimistic.

Seems it's a nice car, just needs a tremendous amount of downforce
Just a fan's point of view
