That's the thing a lot of people miss when they say how much better the RB car is through the twisty stuff - both cars are being optimised for the best lap time and to a degree on the Merc that means chasing top speed as much as absolute downforce.beelsebob wrote:I can see AfroDude's stance here for sure. Both the RedBull and the Ferrari were very close to the Merc, if not ahead through the twisty turny stuff in china. I can believe that they'll be ahead in Spain.
That said, I guess Merc can always just bolt a barn door onto the car and be as fast down the straight as everyone else, but quick in the twisty turny. We'll see I guess.
Huh, no. RBR got close to Mercedes through the twisty stuff in China, but Alonso was a few tenths off every lap.beelsebob wrote:I can see AfroDude's stance here for sure. Lewis Hamilton didn't need to push at all, let's see when he needs to turn the wick up - Mercedes is far ahead.beelsebob wrote:I can see AfroDude's stance here for sure. Mercs did not push as hard through twisty and fast parts of the track as others did ( they just ran away on the straits ). Nico and Lewis to a greater extent had both really good tyre wear ( had been on soft rubber longer than the others ). I am afraid/glad that they could be quite faster if they needed to ( that would cost some tyre life - they'd be equal on longevity of the rubber and faster then the rest ).MercedesAMGSpy wrote:Lewis Hamilton didn't need to push at all, let's see when he needs to turn the wick up - Mercedes is far ahead.beelsebob wrote:I can see AfroDude's stance here for sure. Provided Merc stands still and does not produce any upgrades. Just to let you know, read some quote from Nico saying, they will bring updates to Barcelona and "hopefully provide further performance". When any team gets such a head start with that kind of lead, it has seldom lost it. It only makes other teams to respond aggressively, where teams try anything and everything in a hurry and that is what a dominant team want their competitors to do. That means, teams simply try things that their cars are not designed for.mika vs michael wrote:Mercedes seems to have a 1 sec advantage from Redbull and Ferrari. I guess if Redbull and Ferrari push like hell the development rate they could cut it to 0.5 secs but still they will trail Mercedes.
