Am I mistaken or did Mercedes propose to build that louder exhaust tip for everyone? Or do they just have a solution that everyone could build/adapt themselves ... because that exhaust might be optimized for the Merc engine end their specific exhaust layout, giving them more power and/or other advantages, the 'being louder' part just being a side effect they can use to sell it to the FIA  :D hehehe

It's just a simple Megafon over the last 200mm of the Exhaust Tip. Thats the same for every Engine and i hardly believe one Manufacturer would gain advantage of it.

It's rumoured to be a very small power gain, but yet again that's the same for all 3 Engines. And to add, that solution is just 1 of Many. It's being tested now because it's easy to build. Maybe we will see a completely different type in the End.

Looks like there's something protruding where the rear wing meets the diffuser.

It looks like they are cooling outlets of some sort. Here's another pic from today

Pretty sure they are chimneys for hot air exit from the brakes. The way they are angled, they look to me as if they are trying to guide some air into the rear tires wake.

I don't think they just redirect / energize the Air coming to the Brake Ducts and not actually used to cool. Using Hot air from the Brakes wouldn't make really sense, plus it is harder to achieve.
The Air going into the Brakedrum, going through channels, getting distracted by the actual cooling Surface and then redirected out of the Brake drum wouldn't make much of an effect imho.

It looks like they have moved the exits higher to alter airflow by the winglets and floor. Could there have been disturbances in airflow when the exits were located in and around the winglets between the rear wing and tyre? Wondering if this improves wake and therefore diffuser efficiency?

First post here...

I'm an enthusiast rather than an educated engineer, but it looks like the new 'Snorkel' is angled towards the top of the Endplate slots. Would there be any benefit to blowing the slots to aid upwash and increase diffuser efficiency?

They are definitely using the new exhaust exit. The copied air exit looks poor with those two huge holes. I think the new brake duct pipes are supposed to route all hot air away from tires. Hence the outlet so far back on the car. Rear tire wear is crucial with new engines and this could help to stabilize tire temperatures.

I wonder if it is shaped like that to exploit the loophole that allows brake cooling ducts. In reality it'll be an aero flow conditioner that just happens to have some air than might come from somewhere near the brakes so it can pass the regs?
