Mercedes AMG F1 W05

Mercedes seem to have changed their Clutch Bite Point Find system at Monaco 2014
Comparing between:
- 2012 BPF
- 2013 BPF
- 2014 BPF (Australia to Spain and Monaco)

Question:

Will Mercedes bring a low down-force configuration (no monkey-seat, less flaps on front-wing, shallower rear-wing) to Montreal or will Mercedes go with max down-force because the package they have right now doesn't create enough down-force anyway compared to past years?

They probably will ditch some downforce, though that can be as simple as having lower flap angles. Maybe they'll bring a special rear wing or so.

I find it unbelievable how the team is developing this monster. Even though they have a massive gap, they're not relenting at all. If anything, I've never seen such aggressive development from the team.

It's almost like they're trying to kick the other teams while they're down.

They brought almost every race new updates to the front wing. I made drawings and analyses back in march:

But in the meanwhile so much has changed I'll need to start from scratch. I never ever expected this rate of development, and everything that gets introduced, stays on the car!

Their in-season development in 2013 was also impressive, so after the good start in 2014 I wasn't worried about it. It's not only a fast car, but also a beautiful one. I love the nose and the new livery.

I'm surprised they didn't mention the other modifications to the front wing. It had 6 or 7 new alterations to it that were visible.

This car still seems to have a bit of understeer. I could see further front wing development before seeing anything major happening at the rear end specific to low DF configs. I believe it was stated most everyone will probably not be going through eu rouge flat out any longer so I'm fairly certain the rear ends won't be touched for such races. One thing is for certain IMO, the monkey seat config run in Monaco I believe was a one-off as it strikes me as otherwise very dirty downforce.

Re: low-downforce configurations.

I could swear that I saw a quote from Paddy Lowe stating that they would have a low-downforce package. He does mention in the preview quotes for Canada that they will have aerodynamic modifications, whether that means tweaks or a track-specific update remains to be seen.

I still think Eau Rouge will be flat this year, though.

I don't think it will be, simply because they will be arriving at a higher speed. Maybe if they were arriving at similar speeds to last year.

The W05 will probably be able to do it, given what we saw. It'll probably not be the low-downforce configuration we saw last year though.

Maybe. Not convinced though. W05 wasn't flat trough T16 in barcelona, whereas RBs were. I'd say RB10 is more likely to take it flat as the renault PU has a lot less grunt.
Also, in china vet and ric were on 100% throttle half was trough the long T13, both mercs had to wait almost till the end to go flat out. Exit speed was almost the same, just that merc had too much power available mid corner, so it wasn't possible to just floor it and ride the wave of downforce to carry you trough.
I expect a similar situation in eau rouge.
