Ferrari F14T

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

FP2 was rain.
But doesn't the picture claim it was taken in Qualification?
Exactly my point.

But yeah, maybe they still used it in the race/qualifying too (although this picture certainly doesn't illustrate the point).

Both the small and large opening engine cover have been around since pre-season testing in Bahrain, and I agree which one they use comes down to the current temperature on the day. If I remember correctly the 'small' version was raced in China, and the large at the rest.

So basicly it is saying that Ferrari made good engine, equal to Mercedes? And what? Why they are not being able to beat them?

You know hell is in the details. But base layup is very solid.

F1 car is not just an engine as it is only one component of the whole car (or 6 now that we have PU's). Scarbs is not comparing Ferrari and Mercedes and saying who did better job. He just stated that Mercedes pulled some tricks out of their sleeves and Ferrari did that too, but in a different way. Both look great on paper, but when put in the car it has to work in unity with every single component of the car. And that is where Mercedes did better job than Ferrari, their whole package is better.

you should consider also on rb10's exhaust

I don't understand, what's the point in comparing exhaust on two total different PU ? Comparing Ferrari and Sauber exhaust can have some sense but is quite obvious that 2 car with different PU have different exhaust layout, or i'm missing something ?
The point is the amazing sound we hear, one incredible sound which can be totally different!

The engine cover nozzle size keeps coming up. In my opinion. it's a non issue.

as you can see here:

and

It's a separate piece from the engine cover. So it's either adjustable or they have separate sizes or both(adjustable to a certain extent).

Time for a cleanup. As previously stated, the car threads are not about hypothetical updates or even announced updates and not about lap times. They are about actual parts on the car. When the updates arrive, talk about them here. Post updates in the team thread.

I think the ferrari has severely compromised intake runners with that big old intercooler between the banks. Not to mention the air has to take a u-turn then a 90 degree turn in another axis. They must have alot of guide vanes inside that thing!

Heavy and not worth it IMO coz their sidepods are still larger than Mercedes in most areas.

It's a turbo engine. The key is to minimize air intake length, not to minimize air friction.
