Williams FW36 Mercedes

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Does anybody have any pictures of the low wing Williams has placed right above their diffuser?

I was just looking at the rear of the Williams when it suddenly became apparent that there are a handful of bolts sticking out at various lengths. Why wouldn't teams be using Philips head bolts and at least trim the bolt down to the length required to get the screw on and tight with minimal bolt shaft exposed to airflow. I'm sure that would be Ron Dennis attention to detail. But could that help clean the airflow just a fraction to give the car a tad less drag? Or be very sneaky and shape the bolt to add to aero?

Keep in mind I'm just a fan not an aerodynamists!

Car threads are not about lap times. Discuss those in the team thread.

I doubt there is much airflow in that area, looking at the rear of the car, there is quite a large "tunnel" made by the engine cover.
Probably this is easier to work with and reduces cross over time when changing a component of the car.
Thank you really doesn't really describe enough what I feel. - Vettel

But is that not the reason they do the hardware on the cars? To improve those lap times so they do need mentioning here.

How on earth are Williams able to achieve the cooling requirements of these power units, when they have no visibly large hot air outlet compared to every other mercedes powered cars, including mercedes themselves who would have known the cooling requirements for this engine long before customer teams, yet still have substantially large hot air outlets hidden between the suspension arms. Does anyone know the radiator layout Williams use, as even in previous years they have never ran with a large cooling outlet when the likes of Red bull with the same Renault engine always had a huge opening at the rear of the engine cover.
