Le Mans 2014 – From Racecar Engineering

Different engine concepts, different hybrid systems, different fuels and different manufacturers, all are competing at the Le Mans 24 hours this year. Porsche, Audi and Toyota launched their cars over the winter, and each has extensively developed their cars in the opening races of the season.

In this digital supplement, we bring to you the updated stories with the latest information, an analysis of their performance in the opening races, and also the latest news from Le Mans including the flexible bodywork debate and reveal the manufacturer that was supposed to be announced at Le Mans this year.

We also look at the Corvette C7R, the Ferrari 458, and the update kits that Aston Martin and Porsche both introduced to their GT contenders in 2013.

Hypothecically, isn't this pretty much the situation many of us WISH was happening in Formula One? :?:

Is there a video available showing the actual crash of the Audi N1?

I hate the triple safety car rule, well I hate how it breaks up the field arbitrarily. Bob Varsha had a good idea about a safe solution earlier. Speed up the 2nd/3rd safety cars to catch up to the 1st safety car (heck the speed of the 1st safety car could even be reduced a little to help 2/3 catch up). It should be easy to accomplish that on the lap before going green. This way it can be settled on the track instead of down to luck.

Also the slow zones should be maintained for an entire lap(s). With the accuracy of the scoring now the officials could easily make sure everyone is equally affected by the slow zone.

Just some observations.

So, in case people were sill curious about Toyota's straight line speed, it's not just because of the powertrain. See here for details.

tl;dr, they have a silly amount of rear wing flex.

So we're now into the 14th hour, would it be premature to ask for a moment of silence for Toyota #7?

EDIT: Confirmed #7 is out due to electrical problems.

As Toyota #8 is back in 5th place 11 laps down, looks like this will be a 2 horse race from here on out. Well, sort of; the 2nd place Porsche is 3 laps down.
