AFAIK the interview where they stated that the updates (plural because Austria and Silverstone) will improve the car was given by EB. Now it is exactly the same EB that states in the race preview ( this is what the ESPN article bases on ) that there is no guarantee for ...
I thought the race preview was written by the PR-team

Is it possible that both of these are the journalist conducting the interview putting their own spin on things and so one exaggerates in a positive direction while the other goes the opposite way...so you end up with polarised messages...??

Turned down the chance to meet Vettel at Silverstone in 2007. He was a test driver at the time and I didn't think it was worth queuing!! 🤦🏻‍♂️

Maybe....but this has happened with Mclaren too many times now this season starting with Ron's 0.5 second improvement till now (not to mention the same type of stories from last year)

There are 6 months since the car was launched, but no new FW, no new RW, NO NEW SIDEPODS, no new engine cover, nothing.... only small tweaks to the FW, brake ducts, diffuser. But there are 6 months. In the same time we saw lots of modifications on thr FI, Williams, Ferrari and even Lotus. Not to mention Red Bull. :(

According to sport.bild.de Nico Hulkenberg's manager offered Nico's services to Mclaren for the new Honda era, but Mclaren turned down the offer. They are going for the top fishes Vettel/Alonso, but Hulkenberg (born in 1987) may be a very good move for Mclaren in the long term: fast, consistent and likeable, it would have been a good driver for Mclaren, and he is younger by almost a decade than Alonso. I remember his run with Sauber in the second half of the year. Very, very impressing.
It's the second chance that Mclaren refuses to him, and they may regret in the future, when he may snub them at some point. With all the respect, Jenson will be 35 years old next year, and Magnussen is very inconsistent even as a rookie. I don't think that Alonso will risk in 2015 with the Honda engine, all the sources are indicating that Ferrari is a safer option, and Vettel will leave Red Bull only to dress the "red suit" that he admires even as a winner in Monza (2013).

Apparently the team has not found a solution for better working of the super softs.
Here is the impressions of Edd Straw after Jenson's radio message: "Button's reference to the same issue McLaren had two weeks ago could easily be about the super-softs being destroyed very quickly. In Canada, the McLarens were getting graining setting in on the super-softs on their second lap and judging by Button's pace, he was having real problems with it. There were hopes that this had been solved, but this suggests the hoped-for progress hasn't been made."

What do you think about Kevin's P6 at the start?
1. Is there a risk to get slowed by Ricciardo who will try to kelp Kvyat, or Riccioardo will have his own business trying on on Alonso?
2. He is on the dirty side of the grid, but the Mercedes engine should help a little bit when the green lights turn on?
3. What are Kvyat characteristics, at the start of the races? He is still younger than Kevin.

And about Jenson.
1. Will he start on softs or super softs? It doesn't have any sense to start on super softs. There is a better option on softs and to be in clean air when the others comes to the pits to change the super softs.
2. The most important. Jenson is too shy at the starts, not agressive enough, he usually drops a few places, which I'm afraid.

Thanks #-o

For all McLaren's effort's with this car and an improvement in performance this weekend, they have still not solved the tyre graining issue's. I don't imagine the updates to the car for silverstone will be that substantial enough to make a big difference. Well at least not enough of a difference to drag them into contention for a podium, they are to far behind the likes of Ferrari and Williams who aren't going to stand still.

While I understand that McLaren has said that they won't lose anything by developing during this season into next year, I believe that can gain more by putting more effort's into there 2015 package with Honda. Also I have seen enough of Button to come to the conclusion that he won't be the driver to lead McLaren to there Next championship, I think they will retain him for another season and explore there option's going into the 2016 season.

I would be interested to know what people think McLaren's possible future driver line up could be???

Call me crazy, but I think Hamilton and Alonso for 2016...

Only kidding...though I wouldn't rule out either of those 2 returning to McLaren. How long is Ricciardo's contract with RBR? He looks to be doing pretty well...other than that, who is there really?

Button was OK today. He missed FP3 what really hurt him and his stragegy didn't work. Magnussen was pretty good on the softs but terrible on the supersofts. McLaren really needs to solve that problem. Button will retire in 2015 I think so the line should be Magnussen-Vandoorne.

I thought after today that maybe Bottas would be a good shout??? maybe not the experienced driver McLaren are looking for, Maybe Vettel couldn't be ruled out? although most people think he will move to Ferrari

Vandoorne is a good prospect, but he is struggling in GP2 at the moment! McLaren will want some experience.
