Mercedes AMG F1 W05

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

The only visible update is the curved piece of carbone on the inner tyre cover or was it there since Austria? Behind the brake duct

If you mean this one, it was there since Spanish GP weekend and Merc then prolonged it in Canada.

Is it just me or have the side pod barge boards/flow conditioners been re-profiled?

According to Omnicorse redesigned turning vanes on the car.

Is it me or it's just the picture angle but it seems they have an asymmetric ignition fire hole now ...

Just the picture, those fins you're looking at extend out behind the diffuser.

Is it really new? I very much doubt that there has been any change in this area since Spanish GP back in May. Compare it yourself... This photo was taken in Monaco, but it's essentially the same turning vane as the one used in Barcelona.

I think they are getting mixed up between the turning vanes under the chassis with the ears around the side pods. The turning vanes under the chassis are the same as introduced in Spain.

Anyone saw the buildup on Sky?

Kravitz was talking about how Mercedes spray various parts on the car with a teflon coating (like the front wing).
Never heard or seen any other team do that.

All the teams polish and wax/sealant coat their cars and especially the front wing, to reduce debris sticking.

Yea i know they polish their wings and all that but never heard about teflon specifically.
I think you could also see the teflon itself as a dark grey hue on the front wing, i´ll double check tomorrow.

It'll just be part of the wax or sealant blend, they generally don't work very well though because the teflon won't bond. It's more likely the presenter got the wrong end of the stick when someone was explaining about the coatings.
Force India have been using Gtechniq crystal sealants for years to keep the rubber off for example
