Murphy right there I think...

- First of all, trying to force the checkered flag on Nico, so Nico couldn't set a better lap, but failed.
- Then doing as the team told him so, when it wasn't the case by bailing out of the lap when he thinks there's no improvement.
- And finally, losing pole to Nico and only settle for 5th.

Tough luck... Track conditions where a gamble anyways just like the weather was. You finish your lap first, you end up behind.

Its just a poor mistake from lewis, simple as that. Nico's logic was spot on and even if he had provisional pole I have no doubt he would've finished the lap. Nice easy win for Nico tomorrow but good fights down the grid.

Couldbe a case of Lewis being overly confident and nico keeping some pace for q3. Obviously if Nico was closer in q1and q2 then Lewis might not have give up the final run. Good tactic from nico for sure.

How? He was on a timed lap until he pulled out of it.
Oh? So, you can only be penalised if you are ahead and are not on a timed lap while the car begind does?
Correct. If you're stuck behind a car who is also on a timed lap then it's tough luck.

Unless the team then tell you off. Don't forget the background going in to this session which is the team telling both drivers off for not working together.

Anyone half-expecting ric to somehow somewhere end up in front of vet come end of the race? Wouldnt surprise me one bit.

I wouldn't be surprised but I'm not expecting it.

I'd expect the McLarens to drop back and Lewis to surge forward. That just leaves the Force Indias in the way, who he should be able to jump during the pitstops if not on track. Assuming no mechanical problems I expect he'll be running 4th behind Vettel after the ptistops are done. How close will he be and will he be able to get past? Who knows.

My prediction:
1. Nico
2. Lewis
3. Vettel
4. Ricciardo
5. Perez
6. Hulk
7. Button
8. Alonso
9. Kvyat
10. Vergne

The 3 more wet corners after 1st run became the 3 driest in the 2nd? :wtf: At least i am happy Rosberg got P1 as i dislike RBR/Vettel and i enjoy them being beat to the ground. As for the race,in Austria Hamilton almost won it from 9th i dont see any reason he cant do it again especially from 6th.Ferraris and Williams are out of the picture also so theoretically a good start and a good first few laps should bring him back into play.Still a f**k up though he really needs to get himself out of the s**t he's getting himself into.
Those are pretty much my thoughts as well.
Hamilton has to get his act together. Being in front of your home crowd gives you overconfidence? Rosberg has been much more consistent than Hamilton as of recently. Can Hamilton not learn from the guy next to him in that Merc garage?

So you are not an F1 fan then? Your personal likes and dislikes are irrelevant to the sport.

I was thinking more about outlap and ethical judgement not penalties. The assumption is they send them with some margin for error not to cross the line 0,1 before the end, when it happens something is wrong, allegedly slowing your team-mate on purpose. Since it didn't matter anyway and backfired - OK but aborted lap shows IMO the mindset.

Maybe just wishful thinking on my part, but I expect Vettel to jump Nico at the start and give us a good race.

I agree about the mindset. And purposefully slowing your team mate down on the outlap (if that's what he did, I seem to remember a bunch of cars infront of them so maybe Lewis was rather trying to create a gap for himself) is bad form.

on a race Weekend with all the pressure of a home race on with extra exposure due to commemorating his dad .Jenson pulled off a fantastic qualifying result and british Talent Hamilton screws up big time ....
Jenson still is a force this is very obvious and all those doubters will have to accept he is a top performer .
Laughable how so called professional Teams like Ferrari and Williams screw up big time when you need balls to decide quickly and not super dooper simulations ...These are the days when true racers make an Impression .

What a huge mistake by Lewis. Luck played it's part in the sense that I've never seen a track section dry so rapidly but others grabbed the chance by being there for it. Hamilton just wasn't.
