Bunch of years ago Jaguar spent a bundle trying to get a British Racing Green paint that didn't add excessively to the weight of the car. The gave up and went with a "lighter" colour.
In the same vein, if Honda can't recognize that in F1 EVERY little thing counts, then they need to look inwards very badly. I believe it was Harvey Postelwaith that said somthingl like .... if you make a change on the car that is worth a tenth of a second a lap, it won't really make a difference. But if you do this with 5 to 10 separate items it will.
Stickers may not look like mutch but they will make a difference. Consider cyclists.... do you shave your legs..... of course you do. It makes enough of a difference to be worth abut 60 seconds in a 40km time trial. Besides it is waaaayyyy cooler.

Ian, I thought Jaguar went with the light colour paint because it looked better on TV?
And cyclists shave not to chafe against the clothing and allow post-race massages.

As for Honda - I don't see why they don't air brush the car blue then stick the earth over the top of that? But just livery cannot be the only problem.

If that is all I have to do to get a massage....done.
If you do some pretty crude and quick calculations for drag, cross sectional area with estimates of the hair thickness, drag coefficients for circular cross sections, you can come up with a drag force number for a cyclists legs.
One of te things that makes the analysis a bit more complex is that the drag force is related to the square of the speed. Not just the speed of the bike but the relative wind velocity of the leg and foot at the top of the pedal stroke, faster than the bike by a factor approaching 2.
All in, it boils down to about 2%. Hence a minute or more in a 40 k TT. My best time is around 60 min but the stars of the sport regularly get under 50 min. Skin suits and aero wheels help as well.
I tried the same analysis for marathon runner and still came up with a number around 1 to 2 minutes over a 2.2 Hour event.
Like the Honda gents sould be asking themselves, you're approaching the start line........ have you done absolutely everything possible to squeeze every possible tenth (or thousandth as the case may be) out of the package..??
Massage eh.... what if I shave my.....

That's a lot more drag than I would have expected. Where did you get that info? Quite interesting nonetheless!

Does anyone have good pics from wednesday? Websites are saying that Honda had new front and rear wings, with some work done on the sides as well. Their pace seemed to have improved as well, assuming they didn't do a fast time with a light car or alike...

That is assuming all the hairs are exposed to the wind, some are, some are not. I highly doubt it is that much difference.

The real reason is so the hair isn't matted into road rash after crashing, the rash will heal a lot quicker if its clean.
