Aero: Is the windshield base suitable as radiator air exit?

Post

I remember that the windshield base is a high pressure zone thus better to place an air inlet instead of an outlet.

However in Joseph Katz book Race Car Aerodynamics Designing for Speed it advises to put the radiator air outlets both behind the front wheels and in the windshield base in a prototype car.
Why is that?

depends on the angle between the windshield and the bonnet / nose. Not very clear on the image but if its one continuous line from the tip of the nose to the top of the windshield then a high pressure area wont form at the base of the windshield as it does on your typical family car.

High and low pressure zones depend on the overall design of the car. That means a prototype racer where the designer wants a cooling outlet in front of the windshield, he will design that area in such a way he will not get a high pressure zone there

Could the solution proposed by the author help to increase the downforce generated on the floor using the vortices that come out from the outlets?

Yes it is.
Only for the air outlets behind the front wheels.
The hot air coming out from them has to make a sharp turn to be sucked by the car underside.
This sharp turn creates vortices which help the flow stay attached in the venturi tunnels or diffusers.

Maybe I'm wrong but is it possible that is the same principle that lead to the design of the Toyota Gt One? http://status-cars.com/wp-content/uploa ... 929c_o.jpg

On aero ... anyone who says "this way is the right way" you can basically assume has no idea what they are talking about. "It all depends" means they have a clue.
