A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.
"...and there, very much in flames, is Jacques Laffite's Ligier. That's obviously a turbo blaze, and of course, Laffite will be able to see that conflagration in his mirrors... he is coolly parking the car somewhere safe."Murray Walker, San Marino 1985

#F1 @MercedesAMGF1 to use gearbox joker at Singapore & switch to shorter ratios. Was too long for most races. AMuS: http://ams.to/Rd

The lack of power from the really long 7th gear came in effect. The Williams/Ferrari and even the Red Bull were quicker on the straight after Eau Rouge. It really hurt the first sector laptimes for Mercedes this weekend.
I wouldn't be surprised if we see a ratio change for Monza. 26th August

This was exactly what I predicted after Spa, I thought they would change it for Monza. Mercedes 8th gear was way to long which looses them a lot of top speed and acceleration out of corners.
Irvine:"If you don't have a good car you can't win it, unless you are Michael or Senna. Lots of guys won in Adrian Newey's cars, big deal. Adrian is the real genius out there, there is Senna, there is Michael and there is Newey. They were the three great talents."

Loses them nothing. Or negligible amount. Certainly not "a lot".
