No, it was not stupid. Vettel's early stop forced the McLarens to pit early. Without the undercut and both Bulls pitting late they would have ended up behind the McLarens, that could have pitted late aswell.henra wrote:Indeed it was stupid, knowing that he uses his tyres more heavily than Ricciardo to pit him that early and to force him into such a long second stint. His tyres were completely gone at the end of the race. He lost more than 8s on Ricciardo in 4 laps.Traction wrote: The strategy Vettel and the team chose was stupid. I just can't see why he pitted so early. He's made the tyres last as long as anyone today and the early pit cost him dearly..
Prophetic! :pMandrake wrote:Massa as useless as ever
Stupid for him personally. For RB and Ricciardo it was beneficial. They sacrificed Vettel to bait the McLarens so that Ricciardo could profit from it.basti313 wrote: No, it was not stupid. I wonder if Vettel could do 2 pit stops and go faster.henra wrote:Stupid for him personally. For RB and Ricciardo it was beneficial. If there was no traffic probably yes. He lost a huge amount of time towards the end of the race (about 20s). The Problem is if you are the only one to pit twice you have to overtake all the cars which pass you during the 25s in the pit. That will cost a lot of time and again tyre wear. So it probably wouldn't have worked.komninosm wrote: I wonder if Vettel could do 2 pit stops and go faster.
So top speed means nothing?Juzh wrote:362 kmh for ricciardo means nothing. Could be flat out full discharge in a massive slipstream in action while sacrificing overall lap time. Everytime there was a renault and mercedes coming onto the power side by side merc powered car would leave renaults for dead. Horsepower advantage must be significant for something like this to happen. 50-60bhp minimum if we compare it to how last year's kers pulled cars ahead. Also, RBs still had the lowest AoA of all cars.

Very profound technical insights here...
