I don't think that this will work and can be policed.

things like break temperature will probably be allowed, as they are safety related issues.

I guess most teams can read out all the tech info about their car on the new LCD on the steering wheel, but I think I saw a few teams using last years (lighter) version, RedBull for instance. I can't imagine that display can do stuff like fuel and tires very well.

I read that as well, and I think the FIA will backpedal some before the next race.

I think the teams need to upgrade their displays to alarm and show parameters that have reached near the limits. For example the driver sets his target tyre temperature, which is assigned to each tyre map, and this is displayed on his dash board when the temperatures are out of the target range. He will have no engineers input on this but will have to monitor it himself. I know there are a lot of parameters for one man to monitor but it will be equal for all drivers.

Oh never mind, guys! My thoughts are addressed in the post above!

I don't understand why something that can be displayed can't be said. How is that changing anything apart from forcing a driver to focus on a display instead of driving? Is it marketing - if you don't hear it all the time saving fuel doesn't exist? I guess it's bad for the image of F1 that they mostly talk about fuel. I can understand banning: "your team=mate brakes 10 m later into turn one" but brake temperatures as a problem is weird.

BTW did they suddenly realise it's all illegal according to the article that was there all along? FIA at its best. How about keeping messages but remove double points? Too late = money probably exchanged hands for that.

Doesn't discussing pit stop timing INCLUDE talk about fuel, tyres etc - if the driver gives feedback about tyres, are they supposed to just not respond?

They'll all just implement more codes and start talking about the weather (tyres) and recipes (fuel)

What about strategy calls, are they allowed to ask the driver to do 3 quick laps before a pit stop, and inform them of when the pit window is, how they are doing to come out in a gap etc???

I seriously believe the FIA has an identity crisis. It's like they suddenly discovered F1 is a team sport... and they don't like it. Of course, drivers are the marketable thing (and Ferrari), and it's the WDC that gets promotion, but F1 is, and has always been, a team sport. Banning fuel and engine map talk seems only slightly short of idotic. Why don't we also ban rev counters? Or any sort of gauges? After all, they also aid the driver get the most of his car.

Can you imagine if they ban fuel talk, and we have 6-8 cars from the top retiring in Singapore after running out of fuel? Or only the mercedes-engined cars racing after 250 km?

so says the rules. You can make a cell phone the size of a stamp it wouldn't be too hard to put that inside the steering
wheel it wouldn't be the first time some one had a few hidden features
