Yes that's correct, I thought it was the Nordschleife but I thought it would be an easy guess. It is in fact at Quiddelbacher Höhe, take a look at this other angle from 1973:

You really get a good impression on how big the cars on this shot. And also of how "extreme" it went with wings and aero devices.

.. but then - we aint been back to zoom about on the moon - since the `70s, either..

Well M-M , it seems that 'scary structure' space-frame construction - is deemed good enough - for a new 200+hp bike..

& I doubt any bike rider would feel any better about hitting that Armco either..

I won't enter that debate car being more/less dangerous than bikes. To stay in the 917 theme, perhaps you have to go back few pages to hear about Woolfe's deadly crash at LeMans. Being trapped in his 917 when it caught fire with a tank full of fuel mustn't be really dangerous or bad to you?
