Red Bull RB10 Renault

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Vettel wasn't supposed to tell Pat Fry until after the race.

I wonder if he'll tell them about the Quali parc ferme suspension trick too?

Could it be that the adjuster is spring loaded inside the bulb? You could easily see them getting ~10mm of movement from that bulb height.

And that the end of the flap therefore has to be flexible as well?

As somebody already mentioned, three conclusions could be drawn from this;

- If there is a deliberate spring in the flap, Red Bull might find themselves in a world of sh*t for 2015.

- If true, the FIA was surely tipped off by someone inside, or x-inside, the Red Bull team.

- Newey or his successor took it a bridge too far.

The irony of Horner moaning about how the rules need to be changed to help his engine when he ignores the rules for his wings. If this "feature" has been on the cars for some time then RB should be DSQ from the 2014 WCC. Their prize money should then be divided up between the poor teams. The drivers could be argued to be complicit in this but there is precedent here in the McLaren DSQ a few years ago - the drivers kept their points then.

That's the wrong precedent since the mclaren was technically legal. Since it's a breach of the technical rules, the precedent should be the Sauber DSQ in Melbourne, where both ended up in the points but due an illegal rear wing the points got scrapped both from the WDC and WCC.

If Red Bull believe that other teams run the same setup, they can protest AFTER the race.... knowing that those teams should be excluded from the race result and points if it is the same setup...

I ´m a bit surprised why RedBull -the masters of flexy composite should use a crude leafspring to adjust their rate of flex...

I might be wrong, but I think it's just a joke.

Andrew Benson "The scrutineers found hidden in the wing a leaf spring attached to the end plate and covered in a rubber housing that was painted the same colour as the wing to disguise it. The spring was designed to flex after a certain load had been passed, conferring an aerodynamic advantage. This is why Red Bull were excluded - the infringement was considered much more serious than simply some overly flexible carbon-fibre - about which it can never be certain it was not simply a team going a bit too far by accident - because of its obvious deliberate nature. The Red Bulls will both start from the pit lane after the team decided to change the set-ups to aid overtaking."
