Mechanical Eng. Masters or Mphil in UK

Post

Sigh.. I need to go back to school. I am a bit tired if work now. What some decent graduate schools in the UK? Looking to do a masters or preferably a MPhil. You know.. Just want to get into a quality school that is not too hard to get into or too exepensive. My UK friends please give me a bit of advice. Thanks.

What do you want to study? You do realise that fees will be roughly double as an overseas student?

Cranfield charge about 13000 pounds for overseas students for their 1 year MSc in Automotive Engineering as an example. they do offer a pre masters course to get your skills up to scratch.

I assume you are both bored and rich, the practical utility of a further degree in engineering seems remarkably low.

Yes I am aware. At international students oay much more. I will have to source the money some how. I too think that a second degree may not be the most practical, but It is one of the goals i want to accomplish. I more want to do it to get a differnet kind of exposure.

So cranfield is somehwere that is not too hard to get into? What about location? Which locations are better to be going to school in the UK? (thinking of transport and housing and cost of living)

Thanks

Cost of living? I'd guess Wales or the North. But that seems a curious way to decide on an education.

i don't know that Cranfield is easy to get into as such, there again I suspect that most places are very keen to take your money for further degrees.

Cost of living in London is it as ridiculous as in California?

I think you'll find that living in London (VS California) is quite depressing! I would trade the 2 years I've spent in the UK against 6 months in sunny California to be fair! :P

Thanks man. Same thing my sister said after studying in England!

Been mostly looking at USA, Canada or the UK. Had a friend who went to switzerland to do his masters. I am sure so sure what is the taught language over there though!

Depends on where he was (EPFL, EPFZ?). Could be French or German, although I would imagine in international courses it would be English. I did an undergraduate degree and it was either French or German. Did my MSc in England, Oxford, wasn't that bad, but if you move further north, it gets really bad! :)

Don't confuse Oxford and Oxford-Brookes, much as the latter would like you to.
