I think mostly PR, plus to get Vettel accostomed to engineers/operation.

Yeah he looks to be a bit higher in that car than Alonso. Maybe he's testing it just because he wants.

Alonso was just as high if I remember. Remember back then when people were talking about how the Ferrari seating position is higher? You could actually see the driver's chin.

I am liking the photos. Liking the helmet too. The writing on his helmet says "Il mio primo giorno in Ferrari" - my first day in Ferrari. I wonder what he thinks about the car?

That would be Ferrari's 2012 car, right? Coincidentally Fernando's car that year also had number 5 on it

Will be interesting to see if Sebastian will switch to Schuberth helmets.

Obviously this is tongue in cheek, but seriously, is it reasonable to think that, given the test conditions, he can compare it with the RB8?
I would think he is more likely to be thinking how on earth Alonso failed to win the title in that car.

If a car that manages 15 podiums is shitty, I dread to think what this years RB10 that he's been driving can be called.

Simply to meet and assimilate into the team. There is not going to be anything meaningful learned in a 2012 car.

Interestingly on some pictures there seems to be additional padding at the headrest, on some there's nothing

He has to, its in his Ferrari contract. ALO had to change from Arai to Schuberth in 2010, and he will change back in 2015 when he drives a Mclaren. BUT had to change from Bell to Arai in 2010 at McLaren. It will be the first non Red Bull liveried helmet that VET has not has since the age of 14 or something like that. Im looking forward to his helmet design.

Teams and their helmet suppliers:

Ferrari: Schuberth
McLaren: Arai
Red Bull: Arai
Toro Rosso: Bell (KVJ this year has ran an Arai somehow)
Lotus: Bell
Williams: MAS/WOL - Schuberth, BOT - Arai
Sauber: ERI - Bell, NAS - Stilo
Force India: HUL - Schuberth PER - Arai
Mercedes: HAM - Arai (Contractually bound), ROS - Schuberth (Contractually bound)
Marussia: BIA - Schuberth, CHI - Arai

As far as I know, if a driver stays for more than 4 years under contract with Red Bull (as in RB pays for their competition entries), they are obliged to wear the RB marks even if they no longer have a contract.

But then again, Vettel probably has a special contract and is able to dich the bull after giving them 4 consecutive WCCs. So yes, it will be interesting to see his helmets next year.

Full documentary, part one, of Fernando's last race . At 9:40 is part, only sound, where Fernando and team oficially say farewell, i believe, emotional part. I don't understand much but it is very interesting to watch.

Forgive me for asking this, but is Kimi also wearing Schuberth helmets? I thought he was wearing Bell helmets even at Ferrari. So he had to change it too? And another question about Schuberth: MSC wasn't the first driver to wear Schuberth helmets, was he? If not, was it Nick Heidfeld by any chance?
