Advantages of T-nose (a la RedBull, Toro Rosso, Marussia)

Post

So there's a lot of talk in the preseason build up that next year Ferrari, Sauber, possibly Merc will have their versions of T-nose.
What are the advantages of this design?

Omnicorse claims McLaren will have such a Nose Design too.

I personally think it is preferred because that Design simply gets the most (or cleanest) Air underneath the Tub.

Yes, this is reasonable guess.
But would it be better than a finger nose? It looks like it would, as Toro Rosso migrated over the course of the season, but why? It doesn't look less blocking than a finger nose.
Would it mean that all teams would opt for finger if rules still allowed it?

Pretty sure: Yup.
Since they closed the 'loophole'that allowed for the quite clever Merc nose the T in combination with a long nose where the widest part of the T is in front of the FW mounts is probably the best choice regarding maximum airflow underneath the nose and thus air to the floor of the car.

Viewed from the front it won't make much of a difference. But the T à la Red Bull can be tapered stronger so that the effective free cross section between the FW pillars can be made bigger without problems of air flow detaching on the tapering end of the chin plus 'collecting' air from the sides rather than underneath the finger. That will get more air through the 'gate' between FW, pillars and nose.
