(KVRC) CSR 2014

Post

Thread for my 2013 entry is here: http://www.f1technical.net/forum/viewto ... 14&t=14949

I'm entering KVRC for 2014 with a brand new car, making some changes to my modelling and testing methods but otherwise hoping to pick up where I left off last year.

The images here are of a finished model but before I had done any CFD testing, so my entry for the first round looks a bit different.

I've so much to learn from this car... very good job!

So curious about the max front wing downforce with Monaco setup ;) It is my worse weak point ...

This is a very nice looking car!

Interesting to compare your 2013 Silverstone car aerodynamic coefficients compared to your 2014 Monaco results:-

2013 Silverstone, CdA = 1.2461, ClA = 2.6262
2014 Monaco, CdA = 1.2457, ClA = 2.5697

i.e. Very little difference between the two, despite the fact that the rear wing now has lost the lower element and the front wing is narrower.

Good work!

It's also interesting to notice that CdA values are quite similar even if Silverstone seems to be a lower DF track than Monaco.

That will partly be down to the fact that the wings are now smaller... but I'm impressed that cdsavage has managed to maintain the same L:D ratio even though he has less wing area to play with.....

Thanks for the comments. So far most of the gains over last year are through avoiding the problems that the old car had, rather than anything tricky. I was pretty happy with the overall downforce and drag figures for round 1 but there was a problem with my testing that lead me to believe I had more rear downforce than the final KVRC simulation gave me, and so I ended up with more front downforce (and drag) than I needed. Hopefully for round 2 I'll be closer on the center of pressure.

Thanks, but I can assure you I'm not :D

We were given templates for the engine and gearbox/rear crash structure, as well as some cross-section area requirements at 2 places along the sidepod. I don't think the overall shape is too different to the 2014 f1 cars.

This image doesn't show the cooling outlets, which I added on either side of the gearbox, making the car a little bulkier.

I neglected updating this thread when the competition started - I'll post some images from each round when i get time. In the mean time, the 2015 competition is getting underway, you can sign up here: http://www.khamsinvirtualracecarchallen ... lenge-2015
