The Mercedes AMG F1 Team has confirmed that it will unveil its new car, named the F1 W06 Hybrid on Sunday 1 February, the morning before testing commences at Circuito de Jerez in Spain.
A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Just like in chess, it usually is in your advantage if you don't have to make the first move.
Mercedes ( Wolff, Cowell or Lowe can remember) said that the 2015 development is also based on 2016. I assume that they are looking to improve parts of the engine that you aren't allowed to change in 2016 or beyond. Those part consist of 14 tokens. So I assume that Mercedes will certainly look in to those parts the most because its the last chance for them to improve on those parts. For 2016 (25) and 2017 (20) you have in total 45 tokens and all the parts that you can change in 2016 are also available for 2017. So 2015 is an important year. Parts that you can still change in '16 and '17 are not the "priority".

This article confirms that the PU106A is pumping out 820BHP total. And if they are able to het 40-60BHP extra they are up to 880.... .. Wonder how far the Renault Honda and Ferrari PU's will be behind this year.....

The article talks about 820PS that is not 820bhp. 820PS is about 808bhp, but still an impressive amount of horses. They are even talking about between 860PS= 848bhp and 870PS= 858bhp for 2015. If the can reach those kind of number with the current regulations, then i can't wait for 2017.

What we also should remember is that Mercedes know exactly what impact on performance their tokens will have. As they are developing and testing for each token to be used. So it's not like they can be taken by surprise then try to develop for a set of tokens. They will simply not submit to the FIA and bide their time, releasing the performance updates as they see fit.
Maybe spending more time developing for the tokens that they think aren't needed right away.
Just a random information here: I did a quick frame-by-frame on a hamilton's perfect abu dhabi start and this is what I got:
0-100 kmh (62 mph) in 2.45s - that one's roughly the same as with V8s.
0-160 kmh (100 mph) in 3.55s
0-200 kmh (124 mph) in 4.6s - also the same as V8s using kers.
Though V6t seems to be traction limited up to 140, whereas V8s were full throttle at roughly 100 clicks already.

How did you go about determining where the V6 stopped being limited by traction? I can understand that the V8 becoming engine limited would be obvious, as the V6 would start to move away from it.
whether you have full throttle or not is a really good indication on whether you are traction limited or not.
When it comes to the Mercedes it seems 4th is where they can stomp on it without breaking traction, even in bone dry conditions.

2014 are geared somewhat longer though, still a good indication that the 2014 car were at least as powerful as those in 2013.
