Is it me or the ferrari is much longer? The distance between the seat and the read wheels seems much bigger

The angles of the pictures are different, the ferrari is closer to 90*, and the McL is taken from a more acute angle (relative to a person facing the front of the car).

Look at the airboxes. This perspective will skew the relative lengths that you see. This is also good to note when comparing some of the other features that were being pointed out.

So far McLaren definitely looks like one of the best packaged cars. I think the chasis will be much better this year. What I find interesting is that the two existing manufacturers Ferrari and Mercedes have not been able to make much ground on packaging. Where as customers like Williams have clearly made progress.

The configuration of the suspension is believed to have originated prior to arrival Prodromou and is an integral part of the gearbox and rear crash structure is, therefore, it may have been too late to switch to a conventional design.

Despite the seeming almost embarrassing failures series with the first McLaren-Honda test in November 2014 in Abu Dhabi, there are rumors that the Honda engine is inferior to the 2014er Mercedes-drive in terms of performance for little or nothing.

Looks to me like the sidepods are about the same width on the 2 cars, but the back of the McLaren just disappears.

Wut... The back of the McLaren is about 30% tighter than the Ferrari.

maybe someone needs to point out where the sidepods are to you : )
the mlclaren sidepods actually look a little wider than the ferraris from some of the pctures from overhead that i have seen.

I don't think the sodepods being a little wider is that big a deal. More important is how the air act & react around it to the rear.

"But because McLaren has already needs additional openings in the side boxes at the test in Abu Dhabi, a big question mark hangs over whether the current cooling is sufficient for the Honda engine."

That was just "play safe" version of bodywork. Obviously they hoped to do some property sys checks and some more serious track testing of all internal systems inside car around cornering, and its track operations within the team.

Indeed. Additional cooling was necessary to run an engine in a chassis not designed for it.
