Mercedes AMG F1 W06

I believe they're looking at slimming the nose. I assume the nose tip will remain the same, but if you look at the nose side on it is quite thick on the underside, a bit like a pelican bill. So I expect they'll bring a nose with a smoother skinnier underside once they can get it past the crash test. I'm personally looking forward to seeing their aero update at the second Barcelona test given how similar a lot of the parts are to last years car (front wing, rear wing, floor).

Why would they do that? The lump on the underside of the nose will be helping accelerate the air and producing a bit of front downforce.

The low pinch point beneath the nose helps make more down force at the neutral section at a sacrifice of smoother flow to the tea tray, but maybe Mercedes has found a way to make up for this. This sort of thing we need some CFD goggles for, so lets just wait and see.

I believe they are already on the limit with regards to how short they can make the nose, as are Williams

It could be that they will make similar changes to the current nose as they did to the 2014 China spec nose. With the 2014 Belgian update, Mercedes sculpted the lower sides of the nose, rounded and smoothed the top surface and blended the transition to the wing supports, creating a very elegant continuously curved piece.

I would buy that as well, same nose but some aero tweaks although most important, a weight reduction.
Just imagine the extra weight competitors (like Sauber) run around with so far outside the four wheels rectangle.

Yes, a reduction in weight is also very possible reason.

Looks like downforce tracks are going to see time drops compared to last year for sure. Lots of aero improvements and experimentation this season.

Rear DF on the merc from the slim nose and pillars, more open underside of rear wing and general small-ness of body work looks like it will be a thing.

Wonder what else if anything will show up.

It is a single rear wing support, it makes the monkey seat stand out more.

Monaco last season. Same monkey seat, but with 2 supporting pilons?
