Mclaren MP4-30 Honda

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Yes quite a large gap on the inner of the end plate, it's strange because there is no obvious gap on the outter of the end plate

*edit*

Looking closer it would seem that the bottom portion of the end plate is 'floating'

Its the angle of the pic. Looks like a big gap, but it isnt.

I don't believe so, other teams end the front wing elements on the inner side of the end plate, McLaren have opened the end plate up to allow the elements to continue

It's nothing new. These are the typical endplate slots they had ever since last year Abu Dhabi, and it's the same at Red Bull.

This car is really good looking.

The sidepod area is my favorite part, with the new livery it's extra sleeky and flowing.

Another Soundbit with a Ferrari running in Front: https://twitter.com/publogic/status/568346753252126720 That cornering still reminds me of the Blown Diffusor Days. 8)

Yes I see why you'd say that, the off throttle sounds odd at best...I'm sure there is trickery going on some how, can't wait to find out what

It's over for today. Not very good news for Mclaren...
"A faulty seal on the MGU-K has led to a terminal engine problem that, according to the team, requires a "full replacement of the power unit".

Button will not run again today and the team is unsure if it can stop the fault returning tomorrow, though says an updated part will be ready for Saturday." - Autosport

The sound occurs exactly when the driver is back on the gas, which also means that the follwing is definitely happening:
- MGH-K switches from generator to motor (more power to accelerate)
- MGU-H begins to work, extracting energy from the exhaust

But the driver could also be dosing the gas (due to traction constraints).

So, it could be the systems regulating themselves (I refuse to say traction control here, so we'll say regulated introduction of the additional MGU-K power), or this is a simple case of the bypass opening at the MGU-K mode switch.

Does sound very cool though, no matter what it is...
