Boulier says he will be kept in for 24-48hrs for observation but is 'ok'.

That’s the end of our programme here at the first Barcelona test. Thank you for all your messages of support for Fernando.

All adds up to a car issue to my admittedly cynical eye.

Ok, let's see if they take Sainz to the hospital too, if they don't, it is hard to believe Abad saying Alonso lost grip due to the wind. Which goes against photographer saying. Which goes against Vettel testimony.

Just when the test couldn't go any worse for Mclaren....

Maybe the car was setted to low, and skidded on its floor.

So with McLarens desperate need for mileage, your choices are that either the car was written off by a 70-80mph sideways crash along the barrier, or something within the car caused Alonso to blackout and the team are not comfortable allowing Button out in it.

Or simply the car is too damaged to be repaired on time....

Or they´re not sure about the problem and it´s a safety measure until they know what´s the problem....

Too soon and too little info to get any conclusion

Perhaps they have to check why the G-force indicator sent that message. Very bad news for McLaren and a not explained incident. Terrible day.

Well yes, that's exactly what I said above.

Alonso's manager Abad claims that 'a strong wind' caused him to lose control at under 100mph and career straight across the track into the wall....

Meanwhile, Spanish media report he has been admitted to Intensive Care for observation but is conscious.

According to Benson, Alonso will stay in hospital overnight.

Have got a bad feeling about this. I might (and hope to be) proven wrong, but to me it has all the appearance that he became unwell in the car and crashed as a result.

Hope it is just a precaution, and its the shock of the crash.

The more we learn about Alonso, the more I suspect he got an electric shock from the ERS crap in these F1 cars. The wierdest crash he's ever had, a man that otherwise drives and works like an ox gets so much medical attention for a 150kph thump against a wall.

This IMO happened at a similar speed and at a similar angle...and bear in mind that this a 2005 car...10 years of saftey in an F1 car should make this kind of incident unnoticable to an F1 driver.

Let's hope it is that the Mclaren is just so easy to drive that he nodded off for a moment.

It started to go wrong in turn 3 didn't it? That's a long high-G corner. But a have never heard of a driver passing out on track.

I wonder, are the weight restrictions still so punishing for the drivers? Last year they all came out of winter training looking awfully thin and there were stories about drivers dehydrating themselves.

I don't know why they don't mandate or developed some sort max driver seat weight. That will consist driver natural weight + additional calculated ballast. Car weight is excluded from calculation and measurements.

Ballast could inserted on described place behind seat weight (or somewhere safe place in case of accident). Even then we could "measure CofG" effect and than level up between drivers. Than we could theoretical make for the heaviest driver life much easier.

Yes those sys will raise total car weight, but who cares i dont want look those skinny drivers.
And yes the scruteneerin will be longer, but that could be easily fix with clever "FIA" check or even AUTO control system. Just there is no interest to make driver little more comfortable behind dinning table.
