Mclaren MP4-30 Honda

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

i am nt an expert but i watched full video and specially focussed on driver's steering input while entering and exiting out of corners. car looks way more stable than last year's ferrari. fernando had to correct steering input quite a lot while exiting out of corners . car was more twitchy. for sure it has good drivability and that means engine is good in certain aspects.

They look identical to me bar the missing winglet, which was later re-added on the last day of testing if I remember right.

I think the perspective differences are creating illusions. The first image is from a lower position, hence the curves you see on the second image appear straighter.

This is a strange photo... the car appears to be turning left after going through a corner but both rear wheels appear to be off the ground.

Oh yes ..no doubt... but I was more intrigued by how little roll to the right there is assuming the curb hit the left rear last..the wheels appear to be parallel to the ground... also theres no pitching forward , I'd expect the rear to be higher than the front.

It does show just how little movement the suspension has though.

Is there any need for a link?

The mclaren didn't do enough running during pre season testing to do much aero work. The car aero wise seemed to be very close to the launch spec all the time.

People will argue with me about that statement.

All I'm saying is I don't think we ever saw the car in testing with all the top spec bits on, all at the same time.
Looking forward to see it altogether tho, hopefully it'll be able to run long enough to do a lap in quali.
Just a fan's point of view

Really?! I heard they are going to shape the car as a banana like this: http://www.kipbot.com/blog/wp-content/u ... banana.png

It has a way better airflow under the car but they didn't manage to get it through the crash tests yet.

Really, read post number 1:
-Speculation is NOT allowed. Discussion is limited purely to "what you can touch and see", about the psysical parts on the car.

I've cleared out the PU speculation. Lets stick the car aero-mech please?

Doesn't PU layout count as mechanical? Feel free to move my next post to the Honda PU section if necessary, though.

This is how I see the layout of all the internals of the MP4-30: split turbo, upper radiator above PU = cooler for water-jacketed intercooler (green), gearbox oil cooler above the exhaust (yellow). Thoughts?

The PU is the heart of the car. So you have to be very selective as to what is speculation and what has passed as fact - clear out the speculation but please don't clear out everything about the PU.

Interesting

I suggested something similar today just that instead of the intercooler being in front of the compressor like the Mercedes I suggested it might be in the v like the Ferrari but to be honest the location of the inter cooler is almost impossible to work out yet.
