Yep, it rarely is a

positive development when people start complicating proceedings for one or another reason. Meanwhile, here's what some might say is more lighthearted reading about all this ... the "Mole" at grandprix.com and comments by BE at autosport.com ...

http://www.grandprix.com/mole/mole19453.html
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/61144

... I don't think it's been too often the "Supremo" has publicly invoked a Higher Power!
Please God, nothing's gone wrong and it will all be a lot of nonsense. It would be better it didn't happen in the first place, and it would be obviously beneficial if it was cleared up and everybody was sort of happy.

The lawyers Ferrari has hired to work on the espionage case against McLaren's chief designer Mike Coughlan are predicting the case is costing the Italian team several millions of pounds. In a document obtained by the Guardian and the Milan-based daily Corriere della Sera, Ferrari say that losing the title would cost them well over €5.5m.
"The difference between the two teams is so close that it is likely that McLaren's superior number of points is a consequence of its chief designer having the Ferrari documents," the team's lawyers were quoted by the Guardian. They add that if McLaren wins this year "Ferrari will suffer loss of at least €5.5m" in payments under the agreement that governs the constructors' championship. But, in addition, they "may suffer loss in respect of damage to the Ferrari brand" - sponsorship and sales.

Any team has a valid claim that losing is bad and takes away from monetary rewards and business. Ferrari are trying to make it seem McLaren are beating them purely because of the documents. I do wonder though, since the biggest improvement in McLaren is the reliability, whereas Ferrari can consider their lack of reliability as a major factor in why they lag in points.

Just in...... McLaren escaped penalty by the FIA after Thursday's hearing ruled that there was insufficient evidence to suggest the team made use of stolen Ferrari secrets.

Well, ridiculous is the fact that they have been found guilty BUT there is NO penalty. As a tifoso, I'm furious but also as a F1 fan.

Oh well..time to move on...done and over with
Simon: Nils? You can close in now. Nils?
John McClane: [on the guard's phone] Attention! Attention! Nils is dead! I repeat, Nils is dead, ----head. So's his pal, and those four guys from the East German All-Stars, your boys at the bank? They're gonna be a little late.
Simon: [on the phone] John... in the back of the truck you're driving, there's $13 billon dollars worth in gold bullion. I wonder would a deal be out of the question?
John McClane: [on the phone] Yeah, I got a deal for you. Come out from that rock you're hiding under, and I'll drive this truck up your ass.

Most F1 fans are just happy that this is over and we can continue racing on track.

What exactly makes you furious as a F1 fan? I can understand the Tifoso-part.

Most F1 fans?

Well, speaking about "numbers" then according to:

http://www.formula1.com
http://www.Planet-F1.com
http://www.itv-f1.com/
http://www.pitpass.com

Or the majority of the fans ar tifosi, or the majority isn't happy with the result.

Yes. Read the posts above.

You didn't answer my question though. What would've been a result you were happy with, as a F1 fan?

IMO...total BS! The "guilty verdict for possession of confidential documents & information belonging to Ferrari should have carried a punishment regardless of whether there was evidence that McLaren had benefited from the information."

McL has a 780-page dossier of Ferrari information & within a few days the FIA conclude that there was insufficient evidence to suggest the McL made use of stolen Ferrari secrets.

Typical FIA inconsistancy.

I suspect the FIA office will have recieved a very large boquet of flowers c/w gift card from an annonymous wealthy english gentleman. Instead of mafia... I smell...McFIA.

They could have given them a HUGE fine at least. They could also deduct a few constructors points, like 5 or so. Could make the season all the more interesting.

Penalization could have been done in many ways without affecting current championship. Anyway, looks like Coughlan & Stepney may end up being the scapegoats.

I hope whomever is caught is banned from motor racing.
