Variante: you should try to run occfd with or without rear wing refinemet. It will be enogh to include the wing into the body component, without giving it a name containing the word "wing"

They would look fantastic on track attacking each other

Is this the first time we've seen the JJR car? Looks good (as they all do). Excellent variety...

Who are we thinking will have the fastest car round the lap, and who do we think will have the highest top speed down the start/finish straight?

How close do we think they're going to be? Do we think there will be any surprises?

Is the Dynarace car actually racing? I like the look of it...

"That" wing Variante; Lovely modelling! Can't wait to see the coefficients and balance...

Wow my car looks good when you guys do tje render... i dont think i have much home from the results i got i have next to no rear downforce.
Drag: 1344.51 N
Drag coefficient - Cd: 0.64
Drag area - Cd.A: 1.12 m2
Downforce: -1291.01 N
Downforce coefficient - Cl: -0.61
Downforce area - Cl.A: -1.08 m2
CoP of downforce: 0.848 m along streamwise (Y) direction from Y = 0.00 m.
KVRC Only: Corrected CoP of downforce: 1.249 m along streamwise (Y) direction from Y = 0.00 m.
Manual calculation of CoP (uncorrected): 1.034m from Y = 0.00m.
Manual calculation of CoP (KVRC only - corrected): 1.342m from Y = 0.00m.

You're Mercury Motorsport, right? The torquoise car above?

Did you use the "Savage" rear wing elements? From the Render the wing looks ok... Obviously we can't comment on the diffuser...

Wow! This year's entries look awesome! Congrats to all the teams. There is a lot of variety, even thought they all look pretty LMP'esque. I wonder if someone will try some more agressive and imaginative solutions for race 2.

Great variety indeed. They all look very good: everybody knows how cars aerodynamics work, for sure! Well done, everybody.

@etsmc: since you posted the numbers, i'll make some considerations about.
First thing i would do to increase downforce, especially on the rear axle, is raise the rear wing up, to put some distance between the airfoils and the rear wheels arches and rear deck (in order to avoid downforce dissipative interactions between those elements).
Then, i would focus 99% of the development on the diffuser: it is just not working, for some reasons.

Indeed. Would be good news!

CoP=1.312m; CoP corrected=1.481m. The private tests CoP was 1.65m
(BTW, Julien, what is "manual" CoP??)
For the rest, machin, you'll have to wait a little more :)

Haha, intriguing!

For a bit of fun, here's my estimates;

Well developed two tier, full width front wing; Cl.A = 3.5
Well developed diffuser, Cl.A = 2.2 (with slight rear bias)
Single tier, twin-element full width rear wing, Cl.A = 2.3

So I'm guessing total Cl.A of 8 or there abouts???

Front wing Cd.A = 0.9
Rear wing Cd.A = 0.6
Main body Cd.A = 0.72

So, I'm guessing total Cd.A of 2.22 ????!!!

Ha ha, am I close?!

Yeah mine is the mercury motorsports. Will take the suggestion on the rear wing makes sense. The diffuser was short didnt read the rules properly got a new car i am working on for the next race. Should have a better rear end.

Some speed data from the Nurburgring:

Code: Select all

Speed trap 1 Speed trap 2
                    (straight) (Schwalbenschwanz apex)
Brook Motorsport 151.3 66.9
CAEdevice 167.9 72.3

Oooo; very close between JJR, CAE device and Variante in both places... And good top speed from Mercury Motorsport.... But don't read too much into top speed at the Nurburgring.... The corners is "where it is at".... Still, it's all about getting a good compromise...

The manual CoP is because I am not using the right height in the CoP calculation done automatically in OCCFD - Andre from MantiumRAY advised me that my calculation was incorrect. But it was only a week or so prior to the race 1 submission. So I used the old fashion way (incorrect) and a manual calculation of the CoP. We ran Virtual Stopwatch with both and picked out the best one...

The last CFD simulation ran successfully last night - after a few headaches. I am feeling relieved that we will be able to get the results on time...
