Mclaren MP4-30 Honda

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

By the way can anyone PM me details on how to get access to hi-res sutton images. Good old f1.com has stopped hosting them in secret after 7 years.

i think maybe this is the new diffuser, picture from yesterday, espn, and clearly flowvis has been used, it has retained the cutouts, and has fewer fences then the previous one

In cross winds or in yaw it must be a mess. Are they choosing a clean diagonal flow over a slightly more impeded but longitudinal one?
In such a tight confine, interference drag would surely be significant. So adding a fence might disturb airflow enough to kill the whole effect. I don't think you will have much crosswind effect in that place, anyway. Flow will be strongly directed by the stuff around it.

Seeing these Pictures. Did they change their Rear Wing support around the Exhaust or is that just the Camera Angle/Lighting showing the Y Piece?

If it is new i guess they will shrink down the Bodywork and Replace the Cooler up Top over the Engine into the Sidepods, otherwise i don't see a readson why they would change it.

Is that an air inlet on the front of the tea-tray? What could that be feeding or where would they be redirecting that air? It's quite high energy air reaching that point as it can come under the front of the nose without hitting any obstacles.

That inlet is for S-Duct.
The cheapest sort of pride is national pride, every miserable fool who has nothing at all of which he can be proud adopts, as a last resource, pride in the nation to which he belongs; thus reimbursing himself for his own inferiority.

The mclaren seems to have a considerable amount of downforce, the lines from alonso are much tighter

No, the "inlet" on the tea-tray is not for the S-Duct, you look at the wrong part of the car.

To Henning: That does not look like an inlet to me, looks like the titanum skidplate curles up from the underside of the tea-tray and up above it.

The video shows clearly how faster the car is in corners than others, and how much it loses on straights...Previous 2 seasons they had a powerfull car with bad aerodynamics, this year they have great aero and bad engine....
If i would get the money to start my own F1 team, i would revive Arrows
