Mclaren MP4-30 Honda

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

True, neither does it prove the unreliability. It all has to start somewhere. It's to early to say. Lets wait for the weekend.

I find different the sound of the engine in this practice. I am pretty sure.

Less 'odd firing' sound in/out of corners?

I know, I know, I know...

BUT!

Even considering that other cars are not running at his higher hands, +0,8 from faster Ferrari is 1,4s better than China and 1,6s better than Malaysia.

I will wait until FP2. But I am satisfied.

Any videos re: engine noise.

Less than 0.8 seconds off Ferrari, that's more improvement =D>

so what do you guys think of the state of affairs regarding the mclaren aero?
Two races ago they trialled an updated frontwing, subtle but updated. It was not used and hasnt been tested since. Last gp they tested new flow conditioners on the front wheel covers, was tested but not used, and not seen here either. They introduced a belly under the front nosecone, presumably to balance understeer due to lack of front df?. Is that good?? means they create so much rear df? They run buckets of flowvis, as it seems either something disturbs/turns off, or the rearwing its self, is less effective at some point during a race, something backed up by alonsos comments from the last gp, that they had rear aero problems at some point during the race. Also underlined by the fact they brought back the rearwing without the wawes. Well atleast the diffuser updates seems to stay on, although also there they abandoned, the cutout version. And the 3 fin layout on the sidepods has stayed also. Do you guys think well see all the trialed updates combined at barca or?

I got this graphic isolating the best time of each team against MP4-30's best for all FP2 so far:

Image

It's clear the evolution of 0,5s from Mal to Bah against Mercs and Ferraris.

Other thing that amuses me a lot is the oscillation of Williams and Red Bull. Seems to me that those cars are to dependent of a special kind of track to perform.

Maybe MP4-30 is more 'generalist' like Mercs and Ferraris.

It would be helpful if the table said what the numbers are.
