Correct myself actually: having rewatched the soft tyre run, vettel lost a lot of time (at least half a second) on his fastest lap in the final corner, so the gap is actually much closer than it looks, even in qualifying.f1316 wrote:Looks very promising for Ferrari on race pace, although seemingly still a reasonable gap in qualifying trim.
Mercedes didn't do any quick runs in P1, so assuming they were running a heavier car, they wouldn't reach the same top speed as a lighter one. This also applies to P2 somewhat; different fuel loads = different weights = different top-speed (to a degree). It's not just drag.PlatinumZealot wrote:For some reason Mercedes' top speed is near the bottom of the list in FP1 then at the top after the race....Felipe 92 wrote:https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CCyxMtCUUAA0fPF.jpg

Yeah, but Hamilton did lost a bit (0,3sec) when he locked up in middle sector.f1316 wrote:Correct myself actually: having rewatched the soft tyre run, vettel lost a lot of time (at least half a second) on his fastest lap in the final corner, so the gap is actually much closer than it looks, even in qualifying.f1316 wrote:Looks very promising for Ferrari on race pace, although seemingly still a reasonable gap in qualifying trim.
Your logic is amazing. Vettels reaction on the radio proves it was deliberate by Vettel?iotar__ wrote:- Same for Vettel, actually one driver was predominately responsible and unless his brain and steering was also malfunctioning he could go off track instead of driving straight. Then he blamed Perez which tells he drove there on purpose. Check onboard to see when problems (possible reaction) started.
can you clarify a few things for me?iotar__ wrote:- "Reprimand" = joke penalties. You didn't really expect Raikkonen to get the real one?

- "Unsafe release" does not apply to Ferrari, didn't you learn in Australia? The fact that they investigated Perez colliding with Vettel and not other way round says it all. Easier to sweep that way.
i wonder what his response was to a similar question before the malaysian gp...J0rd4n wrote:Toto Wolff just gave a straight "No" when Ted asked him if he was worried about the Ferrari pace.
I'm not convinced they're showing everything. Their long runs looked closer than they were in China too, but who knows. Malaysia came as a big surprise.
its not going to be like china because this track is not front limited so they should be able to close on another car with a lot less tire deg... maybe we will actually see the top four race : )AnthonyG wrote:I wouldn't read much into the Mercedes drivers statements, Mercedes benefits from having the illusion amongst spectators a team can challenge them.
Mercs are half a second faster, it'll be just like china if you ask me. (but I hope I'm wrong)
I also think it'll come down to who will be on pole. On this track Rosberg has not been beaten in qualifying since 2006, his race pace has been mediocre at best over the past races though. If it's him in front in the first stint, that could play into Ferrari's hands.giantfan10 wrote: i think the races is mercedes to lose ... i would not be surprised if vettel splits the mercs or wins this race though....
the merc is clearly faster over one lap but then the waters get very muddy in race pace.
