Sad day once again for hill climb racing as Czech champion Otakar Krámský was killed at Rechberg today

Simon McKinley lost his life yesterday too. Google him if you've not heard his name. Someone described him as making Colin McRae look like a Sunday driver.

I'm also hearing of a driver being airlifted to hospital from the opening round of the British championship today. No word on who or their condition.

An awful weekend for the discipline.

And at the same Rechberg race Italian driver Renzo Maggiani was severly injured when he crashed due to the low sun at the exit of the wood section. What a horrible weekend. :(

Everytime there is a fatal accident the question of allowing these monsters on "public roads" raises. It is a very dangerous sport, but these guys never really drive over what they think is their limit. The last few fatal accidents we had were because of "external reasons". Lionel Regal sled off the road and hit a tree due to a river that formed around a corner, and Kramsky saw his engine blow, lock the wheels and send him out of the road into a tree.

For sure they are driving sometimes on the limit (and over it) but with prototypes and F3000 machines, you cannot drive balls-out. Even Fagioli keeps some under the foot, its just his regular speed is higher than other drivers. That is what makes a good driver in any form of motorsport. His 95% is probably your 120% if you can ever reach that level.
