Brake Disc Placement

Post

Hi guys,
I noticed today that on some cars the brake pads are at the front on the front wheels and then on the back wheels at the back. But on others the pads are both at the back. Is there a reason for this?

I know its not the most in depth explanation, but its hard to describe what I mean.

I drew a picture

Welcome to the forum, AKalair.

You should have posted this in one of the tech sub forums, not in Off Topic.

Anyways, I assume that the placement of brakepads has something to do with weight distribution as well as different brake cooling systems that different cars have.

I'm not too sure though :?

Welcome to the forum Akalair. Good question. Not sure if this is quite what you were asking about. I found it in the Forum index. I hope this thread may help. Is this what you were thinking about?

Here is a photo of the BMW, the calipers on the front axle are more towards the back, compared to the majority of other teams that have the calipers placed on the bottom both on the front and rear axle.

And the rear dics are glowing, never get tired of seeing that :) .
