If it wasn't sharp enough to puncture a tire, or cause any safety issues out on track, then what the hell risk does it pose between his legs, hmmmm? Oh, and I meant he could tuck it under a leg, not just stick it in between them. Had to clarify that. Come up with something better than that, you could have read all the other posts and seen that it was widely regarded as not a safety risk on the track by almost everyone here. And you, like almost everyone here, are missing the point. It was completely wrong of him to toss it out on track without thinking about the consequences.

It completely true, F1 cockpits, on the inside, are designed solely for maximum driver safety (inc comfort, control, SENSITIVITY) right down to the density of padding used on the seats. Suppose that thing is in your cockpit when you hit the barrier. The belts stop most of the driver pretty well but that piece of carbon which could cause so much damage to a following car is now heading at the cars speed when it left the track, straight into nice soft flesh. yummy.
Or suppose it gets caught in the pedals, the driver presses the brake and hits the accelerator as well cus of a big chunk of cf under his foot.

Massa's action was really the only one available to him, he turned a corner and under acceleration ripped the chunk off. Had he done it under braking he would have lost control of the car, in the middle of the straight he was going so fast it could have ripped his wing off. Instead he tried to do it when Kimi was not directly behind him (still negotiating the apex of the corner) and when he had clear track behind him.
Had he left it then it was likely to have been ripped off on a straight where it would have been a real hazard to anyone following. He really couldn't have left it on.

who really cares to be honest?

who caused mansells tyre to blow out?

who caused senna to die

etc etc

we could go on.

end of it, in the UK, no-one actually noticed F1 had been on. why you ask?

because lewis didnt win, glory hunting knobs to a man

i quite frankly was more arsed with Kimi's race as usual. kept quiet on this one. tyre failure is part and parcel of motorsport.

who gives a --- what caused it. it was more likely high pressures on lewis front tyres and after coming through 8, the tyre went "ive had enough" and let go

simple as that
