Mclaren MP4-30 Honda

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

If they were running with the power down during this test, McLaren is closer to the front than everybody think, because with the actual differences, even if they are representative, when they can run at full power, if someday they can do it, the differences will be almost cero. The big question is when they are going to run at full power with a good reliability.

At least for this test: =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D>
Renault can't run their engines at full power even in their second year. Same could apply to Honda

That is very interesting. They used red Flowviz at the Front and Yellow further Back. You can see where they mix up on some Pictures.

Looks to me like they also have a "Batwing" like Mercedes - Or is it something else ?

That is a Mercedes. Note the silver colour and the beginning of sponsor name Blackberry.

I don't think McLaren has a bat wing.

What you can see under the tube is some kind of sensor all cars (or at least some) are running. Just an airfoil shaped thing

edit: look at this picture from this article which says
– The laser sensor to record the car’s ride height is a must on all modern F1 cars

What's a Y250, Potato ?

Silverstone should be another performance step forward, with Honda set to introduce performance updates and McLaren scheduling the debut of a new lighter monocoque.
Anybody know what sort of Kg's reduction for the new chassis ?

I've been told - secondhand - that's it's just shy of 2kg - so it's not a great deal - mainly from lay-up improvements and changes to the upper engine mountings (So, I assume the CoG is a bit lower for the tub even without an extra 2kg of ballast on the floor, which is probably more important)
