Either way, that is 196 or 203 km on the same set of tires. I really don't see how this is anything other than wishful thinking from Ferrari.

200km's on them. That is still an insane distance bearing in mind the load that goes through the tyre through eau rouge and the second sector complex.

Either way, that is 196 or 203 km on the same set of tires. That is 50 laps on some tracks.
Vettel said pirellis' max recomendation was 40 laps. Wurz and the drivers association are behind Vettel on this one - so I think they know better what Pirelli said....

Hembrey just confirmed this in the sky interview - said it was an "indication"

Bottom line, Ferrari was on roughly the same strategy as Mercedes, and if they had pitted accordingly, Vettel would have been P3.

The only explanation for keeping him out that long is they expected rain.

They would probably have held up had Vettel not been pushed so hard by Grosjean towards the end.

They thought the cars behind are slow even if the tyres degrade completely they can still hold on 3rd position but it was a big risk. Any other track laptimes would have fallen of a cliff but that's not the case in Spa.
The cheapest sort of pride is national pride, every miserable fool who has nothing at all of which he can be proud adopts, as a last resource, pride in the nation to which he belongs; thus reimbursing himself for his own inferiority.

Hembrey: when you get to the end of wear life, any tyre will go like that.

Ergo the FIA mandate on Pirelli for tyres that wear.

Ferrari pushed it to the limits and --- happens sometimes.

How did they recommend max 40 laps then? Is this a joke? 28 is nowhere near 40.

What's the actual written rule penalty for Bottas tire mismatch mistake?

Outstanding performance from Grosjean. I'm a bit disapointed by the perf of Raikkonen.
Lewis control the pace, he's clearly above Rosberg. He manage everything perfectly !

Bottom line: PIRELLI IS ******* INCOMPETENT AT THEIR JOB.
Wow, how wrong can a supposed fan of F1 be? The tyres are known to be fragile as they wear. That's what Pirelli were asked to do; bring tyres that will give, on average, 2 stops per race. Ferrari gambled and lost the bet. It's fortunate that it only ended in red faces and not a serious accident.
