Mercedes AMG F1 W06

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Why are the decals stuck on it backwards?

It's just a flipped image so it can be compared easily to the other image above it.

Surely this one is a test item for Mexico...

This engine cover solution was tested in May during the in-season test in Barcelona.

I also think that is the case. We'll have to wait until the car is fully assembled with that engine cover, but I think it'll probably be paired with roll hoop "ears":

This might be coincidence and unrelated, but we had discussion in a different topic about the wastegate being possibly used next year to reintroduce DRD. There's always the possibility they are using that roll hoop to explore the idea and conducting pre-elimination research on the drag/efficiency footprint the installation leaves on the rear wing.

Or it might not, but the timing does seems to fit.

Interesting theory turbof1. Do you have a link for that topic?
In Suzuka Toto mentioned that both cars experienced problems during the race that had to be managed. I wonder if they are having to expand the cars cooling to cope with these 'issues'.

And yes, what you said can be true as well. We'll have to wait for the car to be fully assembled.

Ah, indeed - it looks like a good fit for the cooling configuration with the extra roll hoop inlets.

So the new cover is the larger top one? Wonder if they are changing it as a track specific piece. Was it confirmed that there might have been some problems in Suzuka or is that speculation?

If someone said to me that you can have three wishes, my first would have been to get into racing, my second to be in Formula 1, my third to drive for Ferrari.
