from a tech point of view, and from the right angles, it looks amazing.
but as f1 cars actually racing, it looked cluttered and confusing. and to be honest, simply 'too much'.

Agreed. If F1 is the pinnacle, those cars looked at the extreme, obviously more advanced than any other racing car series.

The current cars have improved, but I remember really hating the 2009 cars by comparison!

It's way off topic (sue me!), but the overtaking working group completely failed: they neither dramatically increased overtaking or reduced downforce in 2009; amusingly, teams are now wanting to *increase* downforce, to the extent that the tyre maker can't handle it.

You literally could have added DRS, KERS and wider tyres to 2008 cars - job done. Overtaking would have been 'that bit' easier without being a formality- and I don't personally see why DRS is more artificial than an adjustable front wing.

Probably too off topic in the end. Maybe I actually should be sued
