Haas VF16 Ferrari

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

SF15T origins are clear, but it's still an impressive evolution over last years Ferrari. Compared to some of the other teams (Mclaren etc) the year to year jump is much larger.

Also interesting to contrast with the SF16-H which is an even more radical evolution, the Haas car is somewhere between the two works Ferraris carrying over the same major changes but not quite as advanced in execution.

While they're obviously not identical, VF16 follows SF15-T's lines so closely that it needs a small hump on the monocoque in order to accommodate the push rod suspension.

I'm not knocking it, though. It makes no sense for a newcomer to independently design a chassis if the rules don't absolutely demand as much, because no one is awarded points for originality.

My post was more intended to move discussion away from the topic of similarities. I guess that failed, so here's a second attempt:

Please keep discussion about the car's hardware functionality, rather than with which car it has the most similarities. Cars are ever more converging towards eachother, so why bother anyway.

Also, what's going on with the broken nose?

At first sight I kind of like it, at lest from the 3/4 angle and top view photo, from the side on shot, it's a little uninspired looking.
but I got what I was initially hoping for, 2 more cars on the grid, and we'll see how it goes from here

The inverted flag is a nice touch

I like the nose. It is some kind of synergy between the W06 and SF15-T nose. Till now the other teams have noses with finger tip or short and thick nose tip. It is not completely fresh and new but - till now - unique in the grid.

You can clearly see the influence of the SF15-T in the front wing, barge boards, sidepod inlets, airbox, and in the transition from the nose cone to the chassis. Where they differ is the front suspension, the "Coke bottle" area, and the sidepod turning vanes, of which the last two are more like the early-spec RB11. It also has a short nose.

That's an interesting juxtaposition, given Red Bull's eventual adoption of a more Ferrari-like sidepod layout.

So it turns out we already knew the design of the car since 2015

Video of the car leaving the garage and doing a lap, on Roman Grosjean's facebook page. Must say the PU sounds pretty rough when in the pit-lane. Full throttle it sounds good.

Nice tidy looking car. Not pushing the boundaries in any area, more of a safe bet really. I suspect it'll be at the back with the Saubers and might grab the odd point at some races. The bump in the nose is most likely to do with the push-rod suspension geometry.
