Toro Rosso STR11 Ferrari

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Nice rear wing end plate, going the Mclaren-Williams route.

That engine won 3 races last year tho :wtf:
But what does that have to do with the fact that the car looks short?

I thought it was reported that the wheelbase would increase because of the Ferrari engine but to me it doesn't look like it when I look at the pictures
i misread the quote. I thought you meant it wasn't going to be a winner because it had a Ferrari engine. My bad x

Reminds me of the Williams FW33 sidepods and its insanely tight backend back in 2011. Also had a darkblue test livery to make the comparison complete.

I expected this car to look "big" after the things we heard about the 2015 Ferrari engine...

Seems like they got rid of a piece of rear wing's endplate, just ahead of the louvres.

Wonder if the '16 Ferrari PU is larger than its predecessor? And if so, if TR would had the '16 PU, would this tight packaging be even possible?

This is getting dangerously close to speculating, but probably: yes. Ferrari explained they got rid of "encumbrances" on their PU, making it significantly more compact. So if Toro Rosso would get it during this season, and they'd be willing to invest the large amount of resources to rebuild the complete back, they will be able to shrink it further.
