Toro Rosso STR11 Ferrari

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

all reports are that the 2016 unit is smaller, with a shorter block and repackaged ancilliaries

Yes but wasn't the Renault engine last year the largest on the grid? So to go from last year's Renault engine to last years Ferrari engine actually probably gave them some room to slim the car down a bit

I did not expect that one either. Surely that back will have to open up when go out of winter testing and onto the warmer race weekends. Still, that even rivals the pre-2014 cars which had extremely lean rears.

I expected that. 8) I said las year that thanks to the Ferrari V-integrated intercooler (and its small and flexible water rad) and the boomerang shaped engine oil rad placed outside the sidepods, the STR should have tiny sidepods.
If they had a decent amount of time to adpat to the new engine, they could produce even thinner sidepods.
And they are still innovative.

beautiful car from Torro Rosso as usual.
The gearbox is floating very high above the floor, reminds me of one of the mclaren cars a few years ago.
Well, i hope we see this car at the front, it doesn't see to have any draw backs in the design, as last year's car was very good. Now they should have more engine power as well.
For Sure!!

You have to hand it to the Torro Rosso engineering team, they're delivering beautifully packaged cars year after year, they're a piece of art.

In 5 years time you´ll need a damn microscope to see the sidepods on the STR.
I keep looking at the images and it doesn´t even look real. :)
