I have opened Sketchup and made a few boxes and curves here and there but not saved anything. I think the lack of finalised rulebook is playing havok with my brain and it is thinking 'why bother' despite me knowing things wont change much and if they do it wont be anything major.
I have a concept I want to follow, annoyingly SR71 has got there first and produced 75% of the car I was hoping to produce :D
Anyway, the KVRC will last untill novemeber!

About the 2016 KVRC car shape: I think they all will look like the Porsche concept... except mine :)

It'll be interesting to see what Toyota's 2016 car looks like and whether we can get any ideas from it.... I presume nobody is going to take inspiration from the Audi because it is pig ugly!

An update on the rulebook:

The heat exchanger for "option 2" will be 100mm extrusion, 200K area. The maximum height/width limits for the heat exchanger will be modified to be the same as the area template in option 1. The rotation limit will need to stay at 30 degrees - more than this would mean that there would be a frontal area advantage for option 2 vs option 1.

All other dimensions in the rulebook should be considered final. I am just waiting for a decision on whether we will go ahead with the suggestion from CAEdevice (option 2 using a similar CFD setup to option 1, rather than using porosity) - if we do, there will be some minor changes in the wording related to the heat exchanger.

The guide parts for full participants can be considered final. I will be re-releasing them with a SKP version included, but there will be no changes over the old release.

There will be two minor changes to the parts for the subclass:
- exhaust outlets will be added ahead of the rear wheels, and the bodywork volume will be trimmed back slightly in that area to prohibit placing bodywork over the outlet.
- the bodywork volume will be adjusted slightly in the area near the front suspension templates, to accommodate the templates when they've been moved from the supplied position.
Other than that, the parts for the subclass can be considered final.

I've taken a lot of inspiration from the 2016 Audi even if my body work appears very "Porsche" upon first glance :-)

When I started designing my 2015 car (2016 is only an evolution of the same concept), my reference was the Tatuus PY012:

http://www.tatuus.it/Prototype.php

I rembered to have read something in a magazine and I had that shape in my mind: only after completing the car I realized that the PY012 is (was?) made less than 20 miles from me :)

Please don't.

Other than that I am still waiting for an Allard J2X in KVRC.

I have the impression to have seen another heat exchanger ahead of the rear wheel in this thread...

Solidworks users....

Has anyone found out an easy way to export directly from solidworks to STL? I've tried several options in the STL menu and every export results in errors in location/alignment.

Would love some advice if anyone has found the most direct Solidworks-> One Click.

Thanks,
SR71

@SR71 - I had issues with alignment and orientation when I submitted my first KVRC model. It was a setting I did not select when saving an STL file. I don't know what process you follow to create an STL file, but this what I do:

1) save the individual components (e.g. wing-front, wing-rear, body) as separate "part" files.
2) use "save as" to save each item as an STL. Before saving the STL go to "options" in the save as pop-up menu, and select the tick box highlighted in red below (you only have to do this once, it is then a default setting). If you do not do this, Solidworks will change the orientation of the model.
3) I then use Meshlab to check the model for any gaps as required.

Hope this helps.

I would like to subscribe to the Introductory Class , and now I want to start working on the new car , but i use sketchup, so I have to wait for the new skp file ? I tried to Import in Skp some Stl files, but this are full of geometry so are very hard to use and work on it

I think I can export a skp after opening the step with my CAD, but I think that the official skp will be ready in a few days.
