McLaren MP4-31 Honda

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Also note how much lower the gearbox is behind the RW centre line compared to last year! The cut is massive

Are the wing mirrors higher this year?
I've just noticed how high they are, they are above the drivers level eye line.

Possibly a side effect of the increased cockpit protection. I'm wondering if they needed to be raised to see over the top of the protection?

Turned down the chance to meet Vettel at Silverstone in 2007. He was a test driver at the time and I didn't think it was worth queuing!! 🤦🏻‍♂️

What i have just noticed is the McLaren-Honda has what looks like a peto tube in the air box. I think this is like what Mercedes are doing with their 5, but could this be for the electronics to govern the airflow into the TC and, most of all the waste gate? I think there is something that they are trying to with the peto tube to manage their PU somewhere.

Yay Monkey Seat testing again. We had some apperances in last Years testing but they never raced one. Hopefully with more punch from Honda this will change.

Edit: A pretty nice Garage Shot from Yesterday Morning. Again showing the slotted FW Pylon pretty well.

Great Pictures Lucky. Guess they measure the Exhaust Plume to optimise the Monkey Seat.
